In this paper, in order to improve production efficiency, we have studied a new manufacturing method of making poplar wood into glulam. At first, compressed poplar wood then put into closed unit, in the condition of no-oxygen or litter oxygen to put up the heat treatment. Find out the best process parameters. And have tested the physical and mechanical properties of compressed wood. The results of this study is,(1)After compressed, the initial fixed effects of poplar will be improved while the compressed temperature has rose and compressed time has added. When compressed temperature is 180℃, compressed time is 5min, the deformation of poplar can be fixed well.(2)Compare with two heat treatment method, the fixed effect of separated oxygen heat treatment is much better than common heat treatment.(3)Before carry out the separated oxygen heat treatment, put some water on the poplar can improve the fixed effect. But should not put too much water on it, moisture content should be 12%~15%.(4)The fixed effect of high-temperature and separated oxygen heat treatment not only affected by the temperature and time of heat treatment but also compressed time and compressed temperature. The fixed effect can be improved by rising compressed temperature and enhancing compressed time. At the same time rising heat treatment temperature and adding heat treatment time also can improve the fixed effect.(5)Shorten the compressed time and prolonged heat treatment time or rising heat treatment temperature could fix deformation of poplar well. From the study we suggest compressed temperature should be 180℃, compressed time should be 5min, heat treatment temperature should be 180℃, heat treatment time should be 360min.(6)In length and width direction of test piece, the fixed effect is different. At the edge of 0~15mm, the fixed effect is not well.(7)The MOR, MOE, rigidity of compressed poplar, witch compression ratio is 40%, compared with uncompressed poplar has been doubled. The rigidity of compressed poplar is more than oak, The Surface Wear Resistance of compressed poplar is nearly as same as beech.(8) Shear strength, peel test results showed that the compressed poplar glulam bond performance is good.(9)Surface bonding strength of veneer finish glulam is 0.8MPa, is more the demand of GB/T15104-2006. The demand of GB/T15104-2006 is 0.4MPa.
