Heavy duty machine is an important kind of machine tools, and the structure of it has great potential for lightweight design. In this paper FB320 boring and milling machine has been used as application objects, lightweight design of heavy duty boring and milling machine has been achieved, through the performance analysis and optimization of the machine tool structure, and the precision compensation on the basis of structure stiffness field analysis. Specific tasks are expanded as following:The affecting factors of structure performance of the heavy duty boring and milling machine have been discussed, involving static stiffness, dynamic stiffness, anti-vibration, accuracy and thermal stiffness. From three aspects of structure static stiffness, dynamic stiffness and anti-vibration, the way has been proposed to improve the boring and milling machine structure stiffness and enhance its anti-vibration. And the two methods above have been discussed.The finite element analysis model of structure property for the heavy duty boring and milling machine has been established, the strength, static stiffness and anti-vibration of boring and milling machine have been analyzed. Then with optimization theory, the optimization model of the boring and milling machine upright column is established and structure optimization design is carried out. The purpose of boring and milling machine lightweight is achieved, with its strength and anti-vibration unchanged and its static stiffness enhanced.With precision compensation method, the upright column guide surface deformation is analyzed and precision compensation of FB320 boring and milling machine is carried out, based on the deformation of its own weight of boring and milling machine.Form the work above, lightweight design for heavy duty machine tool is achieved through structural optimization.
