As the indispensable construction and major facility of the valley type sanitary landfill, the needed capacity is formed by the waste dam. Secondly, the waste body is strengthed while the waste dam acts as a retainning struture. The stability of the dam is of great significance for the sanitary landfill. At present, the existing waste dams are bulit mostly as the dike which lead to high expense, thus, the structure optimization of the waste dam is necessary according to the stability of the waste dam.Currently, the Factor of Safety Method is the main method of the stability analysis which assume the materials are homogeneous. In fact, the rock-soil mass is formed by the role of the nature and history which make its properties variable. Therefore, the uncertainty of the parameters of physical and mechanical properties are studied by using the probilistic analysis in this thesis. It includes:(1) The present research situation and the tendency of developments in deterministic method and reliability method are summarized. The basic concepts and reliability theories of the reliability method are introduced. The properties of the general rock-soil mass and the waste are summarized and evaluated.(2) Using a software called GEO-SLOPE and the Monte-Carlo method with Simplified Bishop Method, the affects of strength parameter probability distribution model are investigated. The normal distribution, lognormal distribution, mean distribution and triangle distribution are included. The influences of the mean values, variation and the mutual correlation of the physical mechanical parameters are calculated.(3) Consider the influence of water to the slope stability, six different levels of leachate are introduced and the influences to the stability of the waste dam are studied.(4) Combined the sanitary landfill of Nancheng county, Fuzhou city, Jiangxi province, in which the 1st and 3rd waste dams are analyzed using reliability method. Through the analysis and compared with the results from the Engineer Analysis Book, it shows that using GEO-SLOPE to analyze the slope is acceptable.
