Now the domestic rack is often ground on the general machine, the precision and quality of rack is difficult to guarantee. Adding the automatic control system on the original grinding machine and employing the forming technology can shorten the mechanical structure, reduce the error of transmission chain and improve the grinding precision of rack.Based on the analysis of rack form grinding machine at home and abroad and the study of the form grinding principle, NC rack form grinding machine is proposed.First, relied upon the rack forming technology, the control system frame is built. Programmable logic controller (PLC) serves as the core of the rack-ground machine's control system. Under the control of PLC, the rotation of grinding wheel,the straight-line motion of grinder worktable and the long feed motion of oil cylinder are finished. The touch screen was applied to input control commands and work data, the operation table aided to easily and safely manipulate the machine.Second, considering the control system structure and process requirement of rack-ground machine, the paper chooses the hardware,constructs the communication system and designs the electric lines. In addition, the software of control system is written. The hardware structure is composed of PLC, grating scale, touch screen and alternating-current servo driving system. The touch screen interfaces and PLC control programs constitute the software part of the control system.Third, the paper deeply researches on the teeth-separated precision control method of worktable based on PLC and discusses the full closed loop control of grating scale, servo-motor and ball screw shaft.The NC rack form grinding machine can meet high quality and efficient business requirements. In addition, the machine provides important reference for the development of rack grinding technology and presents high research value.
