Automobile panel dies are critical technological equipment for the manufacturing of automobile. The complex structure and motional relationship among the components will result in such problems as the interference of components and make the die scrapped in case of unreasonable design. Therefore, a successful simulation of the die motion during the design stage is of great importance to avoid such problems as the interference and to effectively improve the quality and efficiency of the design.Firstly, this article summarized the types of kinematic mechanisms and the motional features of the auto panel dies based on their structures and kinematic features, then calculated the equation of each mechanism through kinematic analysis. After that, the equation was used to control the motion of the mechanism and consequently control the motion of the components in the die. Secondly, by using the unified naming rule and the configuration file, the motional data was organized in a systematization way, which makes the system of the dies'simulation more concise and intellectualized.On the basis of above studies, a motion simulation system for auto panel dies was developed on UG/Motion. The kinematics model can be built and the motion process simulated quickly during the design stage. And the interference among the components can be checked which provides a guide for the revising of the design of dies. All this combined features provided an effective way to verify the design of the dies. Besides, the system offered a streamline process to enable the user improving the efficiency of the die design.
