The traditional products design and development procedure generally contains sketch design, drawing design, physical prototype manufacture and prototype experiment. This procedure takes time long and costs highly, which can not meet the integrative needs of quality, efficiency and cost. But the digitization prototype technology is a kind of completely new one, whose emergence and development brings an innovation to the traditional way of products design. By applying this technology, engineers can make various simulation and analysis on the built virtual digital model of the product, which could help them to find out the potential problems and mistakes of the product in the design period, and then they can amend the mistakes and improve the design sketch quickly. Therefore, applying Digital Mock-up technology in the process of product design could reduce its dependence on the physical one, which could reduce the development cost, cut the development cycle, improve the design quality and product performance and increase the competition capability of the enterprise.The entire cross section mechanical boring machine, also called the shield machine, is a special engineering machinery for shield engineering construction. According to different geological conditions, we choose the adaptive shield machine, which can tunneling in the earth accurately by the computer, and meanwhile assembling the segments which can under great pressure in the rear shield, to construct a high quality of the tunnel. Because of the high degree of mechanization, the fast construction speed, the quality security, the extensive applicability, the little impact to the grand, benefit to the environment, the shield machine has been used in the underground, highway, railway, gas water services hydropower tunnel, and so on large-scale projects.The shield machine is a mechanical and electrical product with complicated structure and high automation, its design has the rigorous requirements on kinematics capability, dynamic capability and mechanical structural capability. To assure the design quality of the shield machine, cutting the design time and reduce the design cost effectively, Digital Mock-up technology should be introduced into the whole design procedure of this product. The paper studied the Earth Pressure BalanceΦ6.28m shield machine, introduced the origin and significance of the subject, and has done the argumentation briefly to the development of digital Prototype technology.Firstly, the key parts of shield machine were built and assembled with three-dimensional modeling software Pro/E. Digital prototype model was inducted into virtual reality system, that is immersed sense and imagine feeling of virtual assembly and virtual construction, and the model test, the interference of feedback, forming a complete shield machine digital prototype.Secondly, on the basis of complete shield machine digital prototype, motion simulation was made by the Pro/E animation module to display the working condition. Thrust simulation was made by the dynamics software ADAMS. The relationship between the tunneling thrust speed and tunneling thrust was discussed.Finally, The dynamic simulation and finite element analysis was made on the erector system, that is an important parts of shield machine. Multi-rigid-body dynamics simulation was made by the dynamics software ADAMS on different working conditions. Comparing the results, we can get the loading condition of erector-bridge. The theory will be provided to the structure of erector-bridge by analysis of the mode, stiffness, stress, Which was made by finite element software ANSYS.By applying Digital Mock-up technology, this paper realized the modeling and simulation of the shield machine. This method is not only suitable for the design and development of shield machine, but also for the other full face boring machine. And it also can be extended to research, design and develop other mechanical system with complicated structure. So the research method and the consequence in this paper have the significant practical value.
