Modern manufacturing has transformed into small-scale, multi-species, high-precision, the traditional gear hob design methods were not suited to modern requirement. Different types of hobs require different software system, which has brought much inconvenience to our design. Here, according to the different hob design principles and existing software systems, there are two problems to be solved:First, the hob unified design model has been raised so that different hob designs are unified into software, which can save time and bring convenient for the customers. Second, the designed Hob can process the more accurate workpiece. According to the reverse and meshing theory, the process of designed hob has been simulated. At present, the foreign cutting tool industry has a monopoly position in the field of design and manufacturing, so the research of the tool CAD system should be based on internal and implement self-reliance. This article unified the design of gear hob, worm gear hob. spline hob, sprocket hob four different types of hob and development of integrated CAD system. This paper mainly describes the accurate design andoptimization of the four types for hob tooth.First of all,the gear hobs, worm gear hobs, flowers hobs four different hobs'design features have been analyzed on the basis of the principles of gear. The unified model of the hob CAD design has been raised, and the tooth and structural parameters of the model have been detailedly analyzed. We respectively designed hob flute, deduced four hob tooth surface equations, solved the normal and axial tooth point, fitted hob axial and normal tooth curve, and finally completed the hob structural parameters design.Secondly, the workpiece parameters have been made a reverse in order to generate the parameters of workpiece and tool tooth graphic which can verify the hob design's qualification on the basis of the hob tooth profile parameters. According to the gear envelope principle, the hob tooth envelope module has been established in the system, and the overall structure of the hob has been optimized which can make a reasonable choice for some important parameters of the hob, enabling the design to be more accurate.Each module of the software has passed the usual test, operating stably, basically meeting the design requirements.
