Conventional beam pumping unit, for the benefit of simplicity, simple operation, easy maintenance, low maintenance costs and other characteristics, has dominated a rod pumping system ground equipment. In the choice of beam pumping unit, the capacity of the motor is usually large, but in the actual process of oil production, the electric motor works under the light load condition in most cases, the average load rate is generally below 30%. In particular, in the case of inadequate supply of oil, the pump is often under inefficient working conditions, which results in various degrees of "air pumping" and "dry pumping" and a tremendous waste of energy. Oil industry is the key industry that promotes "energy conservation of electric motor". So it is of great significance to study energy saving control of beam pumping unit.As for the problem that pump efficiency is low and energy consumption is high in the case of inadequate supply of oil, this paper proposes energy saving control of pumping unit, on the basis of careful study of oil production and manual experience. Its controlled parameter is the pump efficiency. To improve the level of automation, the energy saving control system is composed of terrestrial main control system and local energy saving control system. Oil engineers can learn of operating conditions of the pumping unit through remote monitoring software. And in the case of inadequate supply of oil, they may enable local energy saving control of the pumping unit.The system of oil production is a nonlinear system with strong load disturbance. It is difficult to establish accurate mathematical mode. It is difficult to meet the control requirements using classical control theory. Fuzzy control strategy was proposed on the basis of the study of the characteristics of fuzzy control. There may be a wide range of pumping load changes. So the adaptive fuzzy control strategy of online adjustment of scale factor was used to improve the performance of the control system. The hardware and software of the control system was designed respectively. In the process of the design of the hardware, a lot of work was done to select devices and make the hardware circuits. With regard to the special industrial environment of oil production, some measures were taken for hardware anti-jamming. Then according to the modular principle, monitoring software and the software of local energy saving control system were designed.After designing the system, simple debugging of the software and hardware of the system was conducted in laboratory. And then some tests were done in the oilfield. By comparing experimental data when using the energy saving control system with that not using this system, it was found that pump efficiency was improved, and the system was more efficient. The results showed that the energy saving control system achieved the energy efficiency goal.
