Because of the particularity of the ceramic ink-jet printing, the key technique for ink-jet printing is the preparation of the ceramic inks. Ceramic inks are usually composed of the ceramic pigment powders, solvents and dispersants. Ceramic pigment powder is the core of the ink material. In order to ensure the dispersion stability of the ceramic ink and to reduce congestion nozzle and other operating troubles, pigments'particle size is usually required less than 1μm, at best less than 200 nm. Dispersant can ensure the uniform dispersion of the ceramic pigment powder in the solvent, thus avoid the agglomeration of the ceramic ink before printing.In this paper, we prepared the Pr-zircon yellow pigments powder by the sol-gel method and a new two-step method respectively. Then different solvents and dispersants were added to prepare the high-performance ceramic ink by the ball-mill method.(1) The results of the Pr-zircon yellow pigments powder prepared by the sol-gel method shows that:the suitable precursors' ratios and adding mineralizer can promote the synthesis of the zircon effectively. The mineralizers with halogen elements and Li have the obvious catalytic effect at synthesis of the zircon and decreasing the synthetic temperature and the LiF is the best mineralizer. The addition of surfactants can prevent the interaction among particles effectively to preparing the low particle size powders. And the addition of PVP can promote the color parameters of the products with the mineralizer of LiF.(2) The results of the Pr-zircon yellow pigments powder prepared by the two-step method shows that:the precursor's pH value is the main factor influent hydrothermal products, with the increasing of pH value in the solvent, the change trend of the crystal phase is that: ZrSiO4â†'M-ZrCO2â†'T-ZrO2; Pr element content increases with the pH value, and the yellow value also increases after heat treatment, but the low pH was good for decreasing the calcination temperature and got the products with good dispersion and narrow diameter distribution. In the hydrothermal process, the Pr was not existing as the oxide or hydroxide compounds, but existing in the zirconia's crystal lattice as the doping element and the element Pr displaced is not silicate but zirconium in the zircon lattice.(3) The ceramic ink was prepared by the ball-mill method, and the sedimentary experiment shows the solvent was the leading role for the dispersion stability of ceramic ink. And when the solvent was solvent E, we got the best dispersion stability of ceramic ink. The dispersants were also making the important role to the dispersion stability. When the dispersants' ends of the long chains were amino, we got the best dispersion stability. And in the experimental process, the detection of the ceramic ink's viscosity showed that:Different dispersant had great effect on the ceramic ink's viscosity.The innovation of this paper are:(a) Nanometer scale Pr-zircon pigment powders were prepared for the first time,(b) A new method was found to prepare Pr-zircon pigment powders at reduce temperature below 900℃without any mineralization at all.
