Diesel microemulsion, which is spontaneously formed mixtures of diesel oil and water under certain conditions by means of surfactants, with or without the aid of a co-surfactant, is a dispersion system with thermodynamic stability, isotropy, and transparent or translucent appearance. When diesel microemulsion burns, incomplete combustion of fuel can be reduced, combustion efficiency can be improved and soot, NOx and other harmful substances in emissions can be significantly reduced. Therefore, given increasingly serious problems in energy shortage and environmental pollution, various nations pay more attention to diesel microemulsion research. In this paper, emulsifier was mainly composed by oleic acid, Tween, Span, OP, MOA and AEO. The appropriate range of HLB value of non-ionic-non-ionic and ion-non-ionic surfactants were determined by research on the structure and compound ratio of the emulsifier, which were respectively 8.3-12.8 and 4.9-7.9. The best prescription was ascertained by studying amount of water and stability of diesel microemulsion. In the prescription (mass fraction), there were oleic acid 20.0%, ammonia 2.4%, T1 15.6%, S1 10.0%, O1 52.0%. And the HLB value of the prescription was 6.1. The change of O1 exerted greater impact on the amount of water than the change of S1. For the system formed by the best prescription, n-pentanol was the appropriate cosurfactant. The content of diesel microemulsion were microemulsifier 4.95%, n-pentanol 0.25%, water 10.40% and 0# diesel oil 84.40%.Main physical and chemical properties of diesel microemulsion were in line with standard diesel (GB/T 19147-2003). And diesel microemulsions were prepared by 0# diesel oil from different sources. Their pour point and cold filter plugging point were respectively-15℃and-9℃,-15℃and-10℃. Thereby, presumably the best microemulsion formulations may al so be used for preparation of-10# diesel oil microemulsion. At the temperature range of-15℃-80℃, properties of diesel microemulsion are stable. According to checking the cost, diesel microemulsion costs less than 0# pure diesel, which ssuggests that its application can be commercialized.
