Urumqi Air Pollution Countermeasures Research

The rapid development of urbanization and industrialization and the rapid increase of energy consumption in China have brought many issues of air pollution. As an important economic bridgehead of the Second Euro-Asian continental bridge in western China and the capital of Xinjiang, controlling atmospheric pollution has become an important mission to Xinjiang and the city of Urumqi, and it has significant implication for the social harmony and stability, economic and social development, and the comprehensive strength of Urumqi.This study is an objective evaluation of the air quality in "eleventh five-year plan" period of Urumqi. In the meanwhile, GDP and energy consumption were significantly increased, but the major pollutant concentration like SO2 and PM10 declined. The comprehensive index of air pollution declined, the air quality is good and the fine days increase year by year.The study analyzed the time and space distribution of major air pollutants--PM10,SO2,NO2 combined with the natural geographical factors and human factors of Urumqi that caused atmospheric pollution: smoke from burning coal is the main source of air pollution in Urumqi and the effect of motor vehicles exhaust increased gradually. The important reasons in winter air pollution are: the energy structure is unreasonable, the proportion of coal is too big, the industrial structure is too simple, the energy efficiency is too low, the consumption level of energy is too high.At last, the study summarized and assessed the atmospheric pollution of Urumqi and put forward the related countermeasures and suggestions to control air pollution. Air pollution treatment must adopt comprehensive and systematic methods. Therefore, we shall use the following measures as a whole to coordinate and manage air pollution: strengthening urban function layout, air pollution management, motor vehicle emission control, urban green construction, environmental management level and adjusting heating energy structure.
