Superfine RDX powder is very important in modern arms and is widely researched. In this paper, the preparation of superfine RDX powder was studied. The factors including action time, media, pulp density media/material ratio and rotating speed were investigated. On that basis, the effect of the method of altering the rotational speed was explored. And the properties of superfine RDX powder were discussed. The main results are showed as follows:(1) The particle size (d50) decreased with the increase of the action time and media/material ratio. With the increase of the pulp density and the rotating speed, the particle size (d50) decreased first and then increased. The particle size and the distribution of RDX were also affected by the media.(2) According to experimental results, the fitting operating parameters were acquired. By controlling these factors, the particle size (d50) was 0.53μm, (d90) was 1.34μm. The result was sub-micron degree.(3) The effect of altering the rotational speed from low to high was better than fixed rotating speed and altering the rotational speed from high to low. Through more experiments, the fitting operating parameters were acquired. The particle size (d50) was 0.25μm, (d90) was 0.41μm.(4) The mechanical sensitivities and thermal decomposition are investigated in detail. The impact sensitivity of RDX increases, the friction sensitivity decreases, and exothermic peak move ahead 2℃as the particle size (d50) decrease.
