Our country owns rich C5resources. However, chemical utilization ofC5resources has been low due to some technical reasons. We have synthesizedthe copolymers with the olefins of C5fraction and maleic anhydride asmonomers via meta-stable precipitation polymerization. The polymerizationreaction medium plays a key role in the formation of meta-stable system, sowe first determine the reaction medium of the polymerization system. Theolefins of C5fraction react with Maleic anhydride while the alkanes can beused as poor-medium of the polymerization system.Influences of solubility parameter monomer concentration monomerratio initiator species initiator concentration reaction time polymerizationtemperature stir and method of putting the maleic anhydride on polymerparticles morphology polymer particles size and size distribution and thepolymerization yield were reseached. The formation and growth mechanism of different morphology and particle size of copolymers were alsoinvestigated.under the same polymerization conditions, all the monoolefins anddiolefins in C5fraction reacted separately with maleic anhydride bymeta-stable precipitation polymerization. Elemental analyses, FT-IR,13CP-MAS and SEM was used to analysis morphology and chemicalcomposition of the copolymer. It showed that1-pentene,2-methyl-1-butene,2-methyl-2-butene, cyclopentene, isopentadiene,1,4-pentadiene,1,3-pentadiene and dicyclopentadiene in C5fraction reacted with maleicanhydride by meta-stable precipitation polymerization.
