Wood-plastic composite (WPC) is a kind of new environmentally friendly materials. Due to WPC's feature of both wood and plastic and the great improvement of the environment problem causing by waste plastic and wood, WPC has been applied extensively in construction, decoration, gardening, and so on. However, the partial limitation of its properties, such as bad interfacial compatibility, lower modulus and impact strength, is against it's wider field in application.In this paper, WPC was modified and researched by adding compatibilizer and nano-particles (nano-SiO2particle or carbon nanotube) in expectation of higher property.Moderate nanoparticles can significantly improve the tensile strength and elastic modulus of WPC, the effect of the improvement is based on the distribution of nano-particle in WPC. As to the nano-SiO2particle, the amount of6percent is appropriate which increase the composite tensile strength by80%compared with virgin WPC. As to the carbon nanotube, the amount of1.5percent is appropriate which increase the composite tensile strength by23%, flexural strength by14.6%, nevertheless decrease the impact strength significantly compared with WPC filled nothing. The DMA test confirm the result, the SEM observation shows that the effect of improvement is based on the distribution of nanoparticles in WPC. The comprehensive mechanical property of WPC reaches best when nano-SiO2amount is5percent. As to the coupling agent, the comprehensive mechanical property of nano-SiO2reaches best when the coupling agent amount is1percent. The storage modulus of WPC will be increase slightly when nano-SiO2was increased. The loss tangent of WPC is from0.07to0.25, and WPC's toughness is preferable when the amount of nano-SiO2is5percent.Considered from bionics, adherent dopamine of marine species is brought to WPC as compatibilizer which been designed as N-acyl dopamine propylene and18acyl-dopamine with multi active phenolic hydroxyls. The active phenolic hydroxyls are protected by designed synthetic routes in order to improve the wood fiber's binding ability, form the chemical bonds; the long chain polymerized in the routes or long alkyl chain entangles the molecules in plastics substrate like PP and PE, improve the compatibility of wood fiber and plastic substrate, finally to solve the problem of poor compatibility in macroscopic homogeneous phase and submicroscopic multiphase.
