The choice of interior decoration materials is an indispensable factor to judge a interior decoration design successful or not. When designers face such a wide variety of materials on the market, they often fail to know how to choose. Some of them fall into the blind pursuit of new materials, or accumulation of "high consumption" materials, making their real communication with materials difficult to realize. However, just like what other languages such as Chinese and English do in communication between people, the language of interior decoration materials can also perform as a perfect tool of communication between human and materials. The expression of material language plays a decisive role in the success of design concept and implementation of materials. A good understanding of the language of materials can help designers use materials most effectively and functionally, reveal both the commonality and individuality of materials, and finally create a successful interior decoration to better reflect their personal design philosophy. The first part of this article makes analysis of the classification of interior decoration materials and their functional characteristics, and generally introduces the development status of decorative materials. Then through verbal communication and nonverbal communication behavior analysis, it infers the interactive relationship between material language and human, and then studies the complementary relationship between material language and design language. All these are to guide designers to concern more about selecting appropriate materials to express their own design concept. We make analysis of material language, three aspects of material language:elements, composition techniques, and psychological experience it brings to human. Also the relationship between material language and other elements including space, environment and style are also covered. The fourth chapter makes research on the commonality and personality of materials through concrete materials and cases, finally reflecting the practical application of decorative material language.
