With the continuous development of the highway, the quality requirements of highway construction is keeping increased, and compaction is one of the most important targets to reflect the highway quality. The tradition and existing compaction test methods are both cotain inherentiy weakness that wasting time and energy as well as destruvtive, so it is very important to search and discover a rapid compaction test method with lossless. This articile summarize and analysis the relative merits of all kinds of compaction test method at home and abroad, and explain the particular advantage of using the method of vibration damping to test compaction.The method of vibration damping to test compaction is a rapid and lossless one suqqested by the princple that oscillatory wave energy spreads in different density medium has different attenuation characteristic. The paper devised the experiment plan of vibration domping to test compaction and collected the matching signal, confirmed the feasiblity of vibration domping to test compaction by analysising. This article analysised and explained with experiment that vibration domping was not relevant with compacting. Proved that damping parameter in dimensional formula with which fitting the signa was independence with compaction. Put forward that taken advantage of equivalent damping ratio to reflect the attenuation characteristic of ascillatory wave based on fitting with index damping formula. Finaly discovered the relationship between equivalent damping ratio and compaction on condition that analysised and as much as possible to remove energy disperision influence on equivalent damping ratio.Moreover, finally found out that disturb characteristic of soil in the vertical direction according to analysis the pressure of soil in the same direction, then obtained the reasonable deep of signal test. Discovered that actuated signal fluctuations could reflect the uniformity of compaction.At last, presented some advice which would be reference to further study the method of vibration damping to test compaction besides analysising the lack of this experiment.
