Civil engineering structures need to resist earthquakes, hurricanes and other natural disasters, so it is particularly important to prevent vibration and reduction of civil engineering structures. At present, energy dissipation is generally performed by using additional damping device and other auxiliary components to ensure the safety of the main structure.How to select the additional damping device which has a broad band width, the mass ratio and the small environmental impact, is the key to prevent vibration and disaster reduction.In the research of damping, using the advantage of notable damping effect and vibration fre quency bandwidth of particle damping, the single degree of freedom particle damping was desig ned,through the free vibration of single freedom particle damper test and simulation analysis of discrete element software EDEM, particle size, particle filling rate, particle mass ratio, particle type, etc. The influence of main parameters on the damping ratio, the particles of the material, size, shape and quality characteristic parameter is optimized in order to achieve the best effect of vibration reduction, expecting to study particle damping in larger parameter range of main parameters on the influence of damping ratio.Through the comprehensive analysis of experimental results and the results of the discrete element software, the reasonable range of damping parameters of single-degree-freedom particle damper is obtained.The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:1,For single-degree-freedom particle dampers, particle size were used respectively to the larger larger particles and particle size of smaller particles, through the experimental research of two kinds of damper damping performance and damping parameters of main effect.2, For single-degree-freedom large particles dampers, in the experiment all other conditions being equal, while the number of particles is small, damping ratio with the increase of the ratio of quality to present a growth trend; When the number of particles increase further until particles appeared accumulation, damping ratio decrease quickly. Damping ratio are increased with the increase of particle mass ratio showed a trend of first increases and then decreases.3,For single-degree-freedom large particles dampers, in the experiment all other conditionsbeing equal,,the density of particle damping effect is superior to the density of small particle damping effect; Elastic particles material damping effect doesn’t work well.4, For single-degree-freedom large particles dampers, in the experiment all other conditions being equal, when particles freedom of movement in the damper, the increase of the incentive intensity of particle damping vibration influence on control effect; When the particles after accumulation in the damper, the increase of excitation intensity of vibration damping particles basic don’t affect the control effect.5, For single-degree-freedom large particles dampers, in the experiment all other conditions being equal, single elastic material particles filling and mixing particles filling has little effect on the damping ratio of the system. In the future engineering practice, we can choose a single high density material to improve the damping ratio of the system.6, For single-degree-freedom large particles dampers, in the experiment all other conditions being equal, the filling rate of similar cases, the increase of using steel ball particles to the system damping effect is better than using sand; When filling quality of two kinds of particles is close to or equal to, the system damping ratio increase is basically the same.
