With the rapid development of pneumatic technology, the automation and complexity of a pneumatic system is greatly increased. In some occasions of large scale production system, there could be hundreds of pneumatic components. Therefore, when some components break down it is difficult to diagnose the position of the breakdown components and the cause of the fault in short time. Consequently, the reparation could not be carried out and this often causes great economic loss. To solve this problem, a new prototype of observable-valve as well as a pneumatic wireless FDD (Fault Detection and Diagnosis) system is implemented. With the use of technologies of pneumatics, wireless data transferring, electronic sensing, all components'status could be observed in real time by this system and faults of pneumatic components would be detected and shown visually.The main work and achievements are as follows:(1) To solve the problem that the actual working position of directional valves could not be observed, a new prototype of observable-valve is presented, through which the actual position of the valve core is detected with the help of the magnetic core and the magnet sensor. With this product, the working situation of directional valves in pneumatic systems could be observed easily. This product provides a new component as well as new method to observe or diagnose pneumatic systems. This new product has been applied for national invention patent (Application Serial:201010146293.6).(2) The architecture of a typical pneumatic wireless FDD system is introduced. A wireless transceiver of status acquisition and a remote monitoring unit have been implemented. The FDD system, which is convenient, economical and efficient, could be used as remote controlling as well as instant FDD on several kinds of pneumatic components.(3) An experimental system of pneumatic wireless FDD system has been developed. In the experimental system, a mechanical sub-system and electric controlling circuits of a pneumatic vacuum transporting system have been implemented. With pneumatic cylinder status detecting technology and the new prototype of observable valve, the working status of the components in pneumatic executive system could be monitored conveniently. As another part of the experimental system, the remote FDD software, with user-friendly interfaces and visual screen, could work as real-time monitoring as well as movement controlling. It provides a new feasible approach for fast FDD in pneumatic field.
