The construction vibration control is one of the hot problems within the seismic fortification techniques now. The viscous damper and the application of viscous damper in the high-rise building discussed in this paper, are part of the study about the application of the dissipate energy and reduce seismic responses techniques. It reduces the seismic response of structure by adding the damping and dissipating the seismic energy. The viscous damper has a broad application foreground because of easy construction, cheap components, and very good shock absorption effect. In this paper, author consulted the Code for seismic design of buildings and the domestic and overseas present research results in this field, discussed the theory of reducing vibration by dissipating the seismic energy and the reasons of influencing performance of viscous damper, described the resilience models of viscous damper and the equivalent linear theory on viscous damper, introduced an efficient method to solve problems which is Fast Nonlinear Analysis(FNA).In this paper, the research object is based on a 12-storey reinforced concrete structure. Three structure systems such as frame, frame-support and the dissipate energy and reduce seismic responses structure installed with viscous damper are used to build up as three-dimensinal modals by ETABS. Author verified that viscous damper not only have great reducing vibration effect, but also dissipate energy in small earthquake by analysing their seismic responses under the effect of El Centro wave and Taft wave. The reducing seismic performance of the structure with some viscous dampers which have different brace stiffness or different speed parameter is analysed. It is concluded that the damper with big brace stiffness and small speed parameter pose the more effective energy-dissipation performance, Finally, the optimum setting of viscous dampers is discussed.
