One effective method of energy saving of power plants is presented. The research on fossil unit energy saving evaluation and diagnosis technology and application leads to coal consumption rate reduction and energy efficiency promotion by using and managing generating equipments properly.Diagnosis and optimization of fossil unit energy is a kind of applied technology aimed for coal consumption by comparing the actual unit data with the plan data, the average running data, the optimal data of history.Based on the state space analysis method, the thermoelectric power plant state space anatomic model has been established, which has solved the online estimation of economic indicator and the operation instruction. Then the energy saving evaluation and diagnosis system is developed, which has unit performance, operating parameters, performance comparison evaluation, diagnosis and so on. This system can analysis the reason of the energy consumption change by the operational factor and the equipment performance objectivly and comprehensivly. It supplies the superior datum on the current conditions, which can instruct running personnel to optimize and adjust the parameters. That can improve the unit efficiency continually and reduce the unit energy consumption. It has very good practical application value to power plants.After the system running in Shi-liquan power plant, the unit performance online diagnosis has been reached, which improve the level of the operation and management. The running controllable parameter has completed well. The unit energy consumption improved distinctly. The whole coal consumption has been reduced by 0.85 g/kWh. If the whole year generating capacity is 2.24 billion, it's about 1904 ton standard coal which is about 1.333 million yuan can be saved.
