In the design practice and design teaching processes for many years, I experience the design practice process from a complete mess beginning stage to a regular skilled stage, and experience the design teaching process from a single course teaching stage to a stage capable of grasping each course teaching in the whole course system. During reflection of the processes and studying of related problems, the design theory of "from without-rule to with rule" tells us that the design rule research and the design flow establishment are very important in design work and teaching. The design rule is characterized by that complicated design is regular and well-founded. The rule is an objective rule, and can be neither created nor extinguished. The rule plays an inevitable role no matter whether it is admitted by people or not. Skilled and flexible design must undergo sublimation from the with-rule design to the without-rule design. Only the with-rule design is simple and doctrinal, and the without-rule design can be achieved through breakthrough and innovation based on the rule. This paper aims to exploring four main steps of the design rule and the design flow with high feasibility, inevitability and practicality on the basis of practice. The four steps include:(1) the research and practice of function foundation based on learning of plan drawing, (2) the research and practice of design idea based on thinking of rough drawing, (3) the research and practice of idea expression based on expression of effect drawing, and (4) the research and practice of design constructability based on deepening of working drawing. The design thinking process and the design expression ability involved in the four steps all focus on the four kinds of drawings:plant drawing, rough drawing, effect drawing and working drawing, which reveals both the design inherent function that the idea is changed into the drawings, and the design characteristic that arc design is represented with the drawings. So the design teaching system establishment emphasizes that students should learn the four kinds of drawings as base, keep on learning, training and thinking with pens and mouse as tools during drawing, and can express the design idea with drawing language.
