Rammed earth wall bearing buildings refer to the buildings whose weight of roof truss, roof and other loads are entirely born by Rammed earth walls. From the construction features and stress features of the building,it can divided into cross wall bearing building and vertical and horizontal wall bearing building.Rammed earth buildings have many superiorities,such as getting along with nature in harmony, using local materials and saving energy and costs, which contain the concept of sustainable development and the ideas of saving energy. They best fit ecological principles. Therefore, the rammed earth buildings are widely used in the development of human society, up to today,they are still in use.However, at this stage such buildings in towns and villages are mostly built by the peasant themselves,most buildings without professional design, their construction process is not precise enough and there are a number of rural housing disrepair for many years. Therefore, in the process of construction ang use such buildings will occur quality problems and exist potential safety hazards. For example, local compression destruction of rammed earth wall caused by the lack of local bearing capacity is a common failure mode of such buildings, the inadequate local compression strength of rammed earth wall may lead to the damage of the wall and endanger the entire structure, if the portion of the structure damaged,it will cause significant changes to overall structural performance of the buildings, most serious is that it will cause significant quality accident in the project,and the consequences would be unthinkable, but now the study on local compression property of rammed earth wall bearing buildings is rarely, because of this, it is very necessary to study on local compression property of such buildings.To study on local compression property of rammed earth wall bearing buildings and find out the reason why rammed earth wall occurs local compression destruction and verify the rationality and effectiveness of the necessary measures for reinforce among the people, this paper is mainly focused on the aspects as following: (1) Through site investigation and survey, we have obtained related information and common quality defects for two types of rammed earth wall bearing buildings, which can help us establishing analytic models and finding out the reason of quality defects for rammed earth wall bearing buildings.(2) In this paper, local compression destruction this quality defect of rammed earth wall bearing buildings were analyzed in detail.In the process of establishing analytic models, we have adhered to these basic principles:Considering the main factors that affect the deformation and ignoring the secondary factor. We have established local simplified finite element method for two types of rammed earth wall bearing buildings.(3) Through establishing finite element method and analysising the structural performance of in-service rammed earth wall bearing buildings,we have find out the main reason that rammed earth wall occured local compression destruction.(4) Selecting the guidelines recommend and civil control of local compression—settings padding blocks, it was analyzed and the analytical results show that this structural measures is reasonable and effective.
