The research on reservoir optimal operation is one of the hottest issues domestically and internationally.Two technical problems in reservoir optimal operation are the establishment of optimal scheduling model and the method for solving the model. In the paper, the new method for solving the model of reservoir optimal operation has been mainly studied in this research.On the basis of the results of current national and international research, the existing problems and development trend of future research have been analyzed in the reservoir optimal operation at present. Further exploration and research are made for the method of solving the reservoir optimal operation model. The shuffled complex evolution optimization algorithm (SCE-UA) has been applied in solving the model of reservoir optimal operation.The basic principle of SCE-UA algorithm has been studied thoroughly.The reservoir optimal operation model of maximum power generation based on SCE-UA algorithm was established according to the features and advantages of the algorithm and the requirements of the reservoir optimal operation.Compared with the results of dynamic state programming method, the results of SCE-UA algorithm are much better. It proves that the SCE-UA algorithm is feasible, effective and accurate in solving the model of reservoir optimal operation. The problem of the reservoir optimal operation in the power market has also been studied. On the basis of the conventional reservoir optimal operation model of maximum power generation, the reservoir optimal operation model of time-varying electricity price based on SCE-UA algorithm is established considering the different prices in different periods. The SCE-UA algorithm is used to solve the model. The results are relatively good in the application example.Compared with the model of maximum power generation, the generation benefit of the reservoir increases to a certain extent. It provides an efficient and suitable algorithm and a new solution idea for reservoir optimal operation.
