With the dynamic development of auto industry, it is shortened that the product design and manufacturing cycle of the new car model. The traditional way of design and manufacturing prototyping and testing it will be washed because of long cycle and high cost. It is necessary to apply simulation technique to shorten the design cycle on the drawing board. Engineers can build and test virtual prototype in ADAMS(Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems) quickly. ADAMS simulates the real process of system by solving kinematic equations, static equations, quasi-static equations and dynamic equations. Furthermore, ADAMS is a powerful tool for optimal design. This paper took a look back at the history of vehicle suspension, analyzed the characteristics and compared the differences of suspensions. The virtual prototype of double wishbone suspension was built in ADAMS/Car. Responses of wheel aligment parameters were investigated in ADAMS/Insight by sweep study method. After finding out the factors, which affected the respones significantly, Hardpoints of suspension were optimized through two levels full factors method in Insight. Then the full vehicle model was built in ADAMS, including front and rear suspensions, steering system, braking system and so on. Acorrording to"Vehicel vibration-Describing method GB7031-86 for road surface irregularity", the roud roughness was simulated in Matlab by partial wave adding model. Comparing with the PSD given, the PSD of the road roughness simulated correspond well. The 3D Equivalent-Volume road file, that needed by ADAMS road file, was created with Matlab. At last, Ride comfort of the car model was evaluated.
