The development of residential depends on its past. The industrial revolution changed the develop process of human society, a lot of people from the countryside moved to the city caused a high-speed urbanization. In this process, the high-rise residential appeared in the stage of history. With no doubt, the congregate housing is the most extensive architecture type. Many architecture masters matured by designing and thinking of the housing.We can learn a lot of knowledges from the master's works, not only the architecture design methods,but also the theories and thinking processes.This paper has great practical significance in improving the design level of congregate housing of our country.Since the nineties of the 20th century, the construction quantity of high-rise residential in our country increased year by year, and gradually became the main method for solving urban residential problem. Simple repetition of standard layer became the main form of residential buildings.As a result,our high-rise residential lack of individuality and identity. This social problem is worth thinking for Chinese architect.This paper set history as a clue.Based on relevant social and history background, the paper takes case study as main means. Through a lot of analysis of the high-rise residential ,the paper accomplish a systematic research of related theory and design method. Finally, based on the development situation of contemporary Chinese residential,we get three aspects of optimization strategy ,including high-rise residential planning, single building designing and dwelling size designing.This paper means to give some useful advices to architectˋresidential investors and policy makers and make good efforts to the sustainable development of residential in our country.
