The unceasing development of space activity has greatly promoted the progress of science and technology, but also has an impact on the space environment. The increasing of space debris has become a serious hazard to the spacecraft in orbit. One of the most useful measures to protect the spacecraft from being destroyed by the dangerous space debris is designing the passive protective structure for the spacecraft, using the protective materials and the protective structure. In this dissertation, the research on the damage characteristics of shield structure, which is based on the ceramic coating on aluminum bumper, under hypervelocity impact was studied by using the method of experiment techniques and numerical simulation. The investigation results could be references provided for engineering design of spacecraft shield structure.Accomplished the hypervelocity impact experiments on ceramic coating on aluminum bumper-Whipple shield structure, the experiments used 3.97mm diameter spherical projectiles at velocity 1.5km/s~5.0km/s, and the impact angle was 0°, analyzed the damage characteristics of shield structure. At the same time, comparative experiment on 2A12 aluminum bumper-Whipple shield structure, studied the improvement of the protection ability of the Whipple shield structure by using ceramic coating on aluminum bumper.Hypervelocity impact experiment on dual-bumper shield structure based on ceramic coating on aluminum bumper, which combined the ceramic coating on aluminum bumper, 2A12 aluminum bumper, and three different specifications of the aluminum wire in different way, studied the damage characteristics of each kind of combination, and analyzed the effect on the protection ability of the shield structure. The experiments used 6.35mm diameter spherical projectiles.The validity of the method of numerical simulation was verified. Using the method of numerical simulation, the damage characteristics of ceramic coating on aluminum bumper-Whipple shield structure under hypervelocity impact was studied. And the effect on damage characteristics of the shield structure was analyzed in the condition of changing the ceramic coating on aluminum layer's thickness. On this basis, the proposal of the optimum design for ceramic coating on aluminum bumper-Whipple shield structure was made.
