With the application of new technologies, substation automation technology comes into the era of digital substation. Since the working mode changes, the new digital protection device performance test is also facing many new challenges, which performance needs to be tested.On the basis of in-depth study of digital substation structure, a digital substation simulation platform by RTDS is established. The digital protection performance test study is achieved by this platform. An implementation to build a real simulation environment by RTDS is proposed.The digital substation is introduced, which includes overall structure and key technical features. The process layer network communication mechanism and composition of the plan is presented, and the RTDS composition and routine testing method is briefly described.Firstly, based on the above, the concrete method of creating the merging unit and intelligent terminal for the consolidation of simulation platform from existing structure by RTDS is discussed in different situations. The merging unit and intelligent terminal by interface conversion device and GTNET card are created, which can send and receive the sample value and GOOSE messagesSecondly, according to the IEC61850 standard, a design scheme of the process layer network is analyzed, including a reasonable choice of network structure, switching equipment and so on. Meanwhile, according to the main wire in 220kV substation, a simulation platform composed by simulated intelligent primary equipments, protection equipments and switches is designed.Finally, the two methods based on platform are tested in the digital protection experiments. The results show that the RTDS simulation system of digital substation protection can meets the IEC61850 standard performance test requirements and achieves the ideal results.
