With the development of technology and the progress of photonics, more and more light sources are applied in every corner of industry. Ultraviolet (UV) rays are widely used in industrial and agricultural productions.With the development of UV sources, especially with the advent of high-power xenon lamp, the demanding for the drive circuit of light sources is higher. According to the characteristics of xenon lamp, the requirement of power stage for the drive power supply is larger in practical productions, however, the present drive power supplies for xenon lamp could hardly meet the requirement. The present drive power supplies for xenon lamp need auxiliary poles, which limited the application of xenon lamps greatly.In this subject, the designed drive power supply could reach a maximized power of 5kW and the power is adjustable. Meanwhile, auxiliary poles are absent in this system. Because of the using of high-frequency inverter technique in modern power electronics and RS-232 communication technique, this drive power supply has the advantage of small volume, light weight and easy to operate, which could expand the application area for UV xenon lamps. The whole system is divided into two parts hardware and software. The two parts are designed separately and then the whole system is tested. The hardware main circuit uses the high-frequency inverter technique and was simulated on MATLAB. The main control circuit realized the communication, the production of phase-shifted PWM waves, control and protection functions and the pre-ignition circuit realized the pre-ignition and constant-current control for xenon lamps. Four kinds of power supplies with various voltages are designed for the auxiliary power supply circuit. The sampling circuit realized the sampling for the voltage of main capacitor voltage and the current of xenon lamp.The design for software takes dsPIC30F2020 microcontroller as the main device and is programmed by C language. The whole software system works in the order loop way, that is to say, the whole program is divided into 3 types- main program, subprogram and interrupt program. The main program realized the initialization of modules and the test for subprogram flag. The subprogram realized many functions, including overheat protection, data processing, time control, Xenon discharge, delay, ending light, stop, test of xenon lamp discharge, xenon lamp light pulses sent and alarm parameters. Interrupt program realized the functions of phase PWM wave, over-current detection, communication, voltage A/D conversion, timer time, input level change detection. All the parts are debugged successfully on Development board and then applied in actual circuit.After the design for hardware and software, all the parts are made and assembled and the whole system is debugged. From the analysis of debugging results and relevant waveforms, the design of hardware and software for this system is correct and the required technical specifications are reached.
