Solar simulator is used to simulate solar irradiance characteristics. It isable to provide a stable, reliable artificial light in the indoor environment andis widely applied to the industry areas such as energy, medicine, biology, chemistry, and so on. The emission spectrum and color temperature of xenonlamp is similar with nature sunshine. So xenon lamp is the first choice ofmaking the solar simulator. Xenon lamp is lighted by trigger. Trigger canproduce arc discharge by providing high pressure to breakdown the xenon. Asit is triggered, the gas pressure of the lamp lowers. Therefore one must waituntil the gas pressure recovers if the trigger fails. The long time of waiting isone of the most serious problems in some place such as frequent restartingoccasion. Up to date there is no such satisfying solution and effective trigger has become a topic of focusing investigation in the industry. This thesisproposes a new technology to improve the success rate of lamp triggering. The content of the thesis can be divided into4parts:(1) Introduction of solar simulator, its light source and optical system inChapter1and Chapter2.(2) Analysis of factors leading to the xenon lamp trigger failure, thesolution and design idea of this problem in Chapter3.(3) Proposal of booster module in details in Chapter4.(4) The experimental verification, security and stability analysis andimprovement in Chapter5.In the first part, we mainly introduce the difference between solarsimulator and nature sunshine, and the necessity of the solar simulator. Andthen we introduce the improvement about the technology of the light source. As the performance is similar to the nature sunshine, the xenon lamp isusually used in solar simulator. In this part we also introduce the principle oflight source and optical system. In the second part, we mainly discuss the factor xenon lamp trigger fails.According to the Paschen law, we can clarify that there are two key pointsthat will lead to the failure. The first is lowered inner pressure and thecomplex element of the lamp. The second is the low triggering voltage. In the third part, we mainly propose the new idea by discussing thesolution of trigger problem from new patents in world. By combining thetheory with practice, we present an auxiliary power supply containing voltagemultiplication module and optimized timer. In the fourth part, we detect the reliability of the design through thecomparison of physical experiments and tests on the actual parameters andtheoretical calculations. The last part is the conclusion of the dissertation.
