Comprehensive evaluation of road traffic safety is aimed at examining the existing road projects, the road projects to be built, transportation projects or any other projects related to the road users, and it gives the existing or potential safety problems of projects, after that it provides some measures for improvement. Although the related research is popular, the application of the study is not enough. Therefore the paper does some research on the comprehensive evaluation of road traffic safety from the point of empirical study.Firstly, the paper analyses the factors that impact on road traffic safety, based on which get the nature and impact mechanism of traffic safety as the basis of the following chapters.Secondly, the paper proposes an index system of road safety comprehensive evaluation, and applies analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to the study; both of the methods were used to establish the research of traffic safety comprehensive evaluation and were achieved in practice.Finally, the paper evaluates the road safety situation of Binzhou City in Shandong province, and compares the previous two methods by evaluating the results. Then some proposals were made for improvement.By this study, it will help to explore an adaptive way for road traffic safety evaluation in China, and it has a certain reference value of improving traffic safety at this stage.
