There are many reasons, first of all, the understanding of asphalt mixture's performance under water is not sufficient, in the next place, there are further research in test methods and test index, looking for good methods of test and evaluation index which able to accurately determine asphalt mixture strength of resistance to water damage. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out the related research about these problems.Firstly, staring from the design of gradation, it is considered that different types of gradation have the different effects on water damage, so there are coarse, medium and small dense gradation designed and their best asphalt content determined, and the resistant of water damage are analyzed.Secondly, it's mainly discussed the diversification about two forms of water intrusion (hot water immersion and freeze-thaw cycle) in asphalt mixture's performance, such as the influence of mechanical properties, high temperature stability and fatigue properties. At same time, it is quantitative analysisd the diversification of asphalt mixture's performance after hot water immersion and freeze-thaw cycle through splitting strength test, compres-sive strength test, compression modulus test, static creep test and fatigue splitting test.At last, it's mainly studied the index in asphalt mixture resistance to water damage, and found that there are many issues in specification about freeze-thaw cycle, we do the test of freeze thaw splitting test and freeze thaw four-point bending test, and conclude that using freeze thaw four-point bending test to instead of freeze thaw splitting test is feasible by comparison of test results.
