In China, construction industry belongs to high energy consumption and high emissions field. At present, building energy consumption accounts for about 28% of the total energy consumption in China. In the next 20 years, building energy consumption will become the main source of energy consumption. With the rapid development of economy, mechanical construction has been already realized in the construction industry. The selection and management of construction equipment also have great effect on the schedule, quality and economic benefit of the project. And the energy consumption and emission pollution by equipments accounts for a large part of construction. Therefore, it is important to study the selection of construction equipment with carbon constraint.The research reviews and analyzes the selection of construction equipment and working mechanism of carbon emissions and construction equipment. Due to the existing problems of less systematization and consideration of influencing factors, the selection of dump trucks in earthwork project is taken as the representative to conduct the research.Firstly, the number of dump trucks in four different alternatives is determined by queuing theory. Secondly,9 influencing factors are analyzed under the principle of establishing a comprehensive and reasonable index system. They are reliability, productivity, economy, life, environmental protection and energy saving, safety, schedule, maintainability and operability. Among them, the factor of environmental protection and energy saving is mainly analyzed and the relationship of carbon emission and energy consumed (diesel) is obtained. Finally, the fuzzy and grey relational analysis method is used to evaluate comprehensively, experts are invited to evaluate the uncertain indexes in four alternatives and the final membership is calculated. The variation coefficient method is used to determine the weight of every index. On this basis, the best choice is determined. At the same time, computer aided evaluation system for the selection of construction equipment is developed using C++ language, which can help managers or decision makers choose the right program easily and quickly.Through analysis and implement of the fuzzy and grey relational analysis method, the defect of traditional single evaluation method could be avoided with the combination of these two methods. The adoption of variation coefficient method to calculate the weight can eliminate interference of the human factors, ensure the reliability of the evaluating result and provide scientific basis for decision makers or managers.
