As an important carrier of clan and local culture, the ancient villages reflect the common psychological characteristics and patterns of life of the people in the specific region and they are also products of the interactions between people, natural and social environment.Jiangsu and Anhui Provinces are both traditional living areas of the Hans, and they are members of one of the five clans in South China---the YueHai clan. Thus, they are quite similar to each other in the sense of historical origin and cultural background. The formation and development of ancient villages in these areas has a close relationship with the southward migration of the Hans which lasted for a long time in Chinese history. They advanced with feudal society of China and merged with different territorial environment and cultural background. Therefore, these ancient villages share common features and at the same time bear respectively their own characteristics which show similar but different characteristics of architectural and environmental art represented by ancient villages of Jiangsu-Anhui Region.Based on the above viewpoint, the paper carries the study of ancient villages of Jiangsu-Anhui Region into a comparatively unified cultural framework of the clan and tries to dig out those microcosmic individual elements in the macrocosmic common features. The individual elements are represented in many ways such as architecture and environment by the ancient villages in the two areas. Moreover, they reflect natural environment, historical development and cultural customs in the regions in an ocular and essential way and this is precisely what the article aims to talk about.
