The relationship between cities of different regions has becoming increasingly closer with the development of social-economic and transportation engineering, resulting in the emergence of multiple forms of regional development pattern, one of which is the ribbon cities. The economic structure of ribbon cities and the changes of region layout will make influence to the hierarchical structure and development of transportation network as well. As impacted by economic globalization, Bohai sea ribbon cities (cities with distinguishing feature of Bohai sea) are growing up currently. The economic area of Bohai sea region, which is constituted by Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan area, Shandong Peninsula and Liaodong peninsula, has been the key economic developing area of China, meanwhile of significant importance to Asian-Pacific economic circle. The relationship between transportation and economic development is interactive as well as mutual promotive, therefore it is valuable to study the layout of regional transportation network, which covers the following aspects in this paper:(1) Described the geographic position and distribution of natural resources, and the hinderland boundary of the core cities, then studied the characteristics of traffic location, analyzed the spatial structure of Bohai sea ribbon cities based on breaking-point theory and gravitational field model.(2) Studied the transportation network structure, discussed the description methods and structural patterns of transportation network, then illustrated the transportation network structure of Bohai sea ribbon cities, used abstract model to analyze their connectivity, accessibility, network coverage density and load capacity.(3) Optimized the transportation structure based on the combination of macroscopic and microscopic methods. For macroscopic optimization, qualitative optimization proposals and countermeasures have been proposed in view of the spatial structure analysis of Bohai sea ribbon cities. And for microscopic optimization, shortest path method and mathematical planning model were used to allocate the resources in accordance with various traffic modes based on the restriction of minimum travel costs and maximum resource utilization. A mathematical planning model has been proposed in the paper, and Genetic Algorithm was used to discuss the solution of the model.(4) Established indicators evaluation system of transportation network, and verified the consistency and standardization of the indicators system, after which used Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate the rationality of transportation network of Bohai sea ribbon cities comprehensively.
