The speedy development of subway system in China, includes the ascending transport density and running speed of the train, the traditional manual operation mode thus can not meet the practical demand. The automatic train operation system, as the core subsystem of Automatic train control system, has made advanced use of signal, communication, computer, control technology and artificial intelligence theory. It is by this way that the reasonable solutions can be reached, which put assurance of the good performance indicators, such as for security, stability, comfort, energy-saving, punctuality. However, with the extreme complex train running processes, many factors, such as natural conditions, line conditions and the extent of drivers will put affects on the way. Moreover, different control strategies and control objectives will be needed on various conditions. Therefore, to find a scientific and suitable algorithm for automatic train operation system is currently much focused.Features of train like nonlinear, multi-objectives and complexity make it difficult to find out the exact mathematics mode and optimum solution. Accordingly, to obtain a satisfying effect with general arithmetic is much more hard. Fuzzy predictive control is a combining control algorithm based on fuzzy control and predictive control. It uses fuzzy controller to optimize predictive control, which has less demand for controlled procedure mode and more accords with the drivers'control idea, hence to meet high quality of the control demand. Fuzzy predictive control theory have great potential in solving control problems of complex system that is one novel intelligent control methodology.This paper firstly introduces the development of automatic train operation and intelligent control algorithm at home and abroad. Meanwhile, it makes research in depth about predictive control and fuzzy control theory and analyzes the feasibility and combines forms of the two forms. Secondly, it makes a detailed study about the function of automatic train operation, optimized control principles and driving strategies and designs respectively PID control and fuzzy predictive control algorithm in the train control system. Lastly, it studies about the comfort of the passengers by designing various ramp and makes a simulation about the train speed control. By comparing on the PID controller and fuzzy predictive controller, the simulation results show that it has a much better effect by fuzzy predictive control than PID control.The application of fuzzy predictive control to automatic train operation system not only enriches the theory of fuzzy predictive control, but also offers a new method for train operation with high quality. The result of simulation shows that the application of fuzzy predictive control can put comfort and security into assurance. This paper makes a good foundation to future ATO research and also means a lot to realize full function ATO in our country.
