The signal simulator of underwater target is an auxiliary equipment of locating system, which can be used to simulate various signals in the marine environment. It plays an important role in the process of debugging and testing. Under the background of buoy array positioning system, a software subsystem has been designed based on the signal generator of PCI Express bus. And it was focused on the two parts of applications and drivers. The former contains the algorithm analysis and interface control. A model of multi-path channel has been established to analyze the peculiarity of signal transmission. There, searching eigenrays and generating Doppler signals are the emphases and difficulties of the whole algorithm. On the other hand, the display and control software, which provides a friendly interactive interface and strongly controllability, is designed by Visual C++6.0 kit. The software is programmed with independent modules, and the dissertation mainly discusses every function of modules.Based on the WDM model, drivers are developed by DriverStudio kit. In order to solve the key points of continuity and rapidity, the way of data transfer operates in DMA mode and buffer is made by circular queue. In the part of communication, the stability of system could be improved in asynchronous I/O mode and the program will not be blocked. Furthermore, DLL is used by packaging interface functions for the convenience of development and maintenance. The target simulator is verified by the integral testing with location system. In that process the function of simulator had been improved progressively, and finally fulfills the whole engineering predefined requirements.
