Along with the development of modern industrial and expansion of power system, power network connection of different areas becomes a main trend of power system. Power network connection makes the structure more complex and operation more onerous, leads to a increase of short fault current between network and a decrease of line utilization ratio which makes a threat against the security, stability, credibility of the power system. As the rapid development of power electronics technology, the research and application of FACTS technology and high performance device such as UPFC has became more and more popular.Based on the modern power system characteristics and recent research status of UPFC, this paper expatiates on the topology, composition, basic principle and hardware structure of control system of the new UPFC with function of fault current restriction (UPFC with FCL). A novel phase locked synchronization technology and space vector PWM technology are studied and implemented with DSP, which is also validated by experimental results. The author researched the control strategy and developed a software control system with TMS320F28335 DSP which was applied on a 380V small model plat form. The experimental results achieved from the small model validated the correctness of the software controller.
