After several decades of development, China industrial design which makes greatly contribution to the needs of national economic development and the livelihood of the people is following the active and healthy road steadily. As the furniture industry which advanced at high speed put forward a higher requirement for us, we have the duties and responsibilities to do research on the industrial design education. Universities are the cradle of talent training, while the practice teaching is one of the most important parts of talent training process. So, it is necessary to do research on the existing model and carry out a reform.This paper analyses the problems existing in the practice teaching process in present industrial design from the angle of teaching system and teaching model and makes a specific analysis on the influence of the industrial design education and the educated man from the angle of the educators and the students. On the basis of these problems, the author proposes a new model for the Industrial Design of Central South University of Forestry and Technology (CSUFT) and gives an analysis on the application of new model. In the process of analysis and demonstration, this paper organizes a large number of correlative materials from documents and does an investigation on the relevant staff. Meanwhile, there are some certain experiences to be drawn from home and abroad, and Hong Kong-Taiwan region. The results were as follows:1,The problems of old teaching model lie in the imperfection of the system, the irrationality of the operating process, the providing of personnel and the ideology. While the problems of operating process mainly lie in the purpose, method, time and place.2,To solve the above problem, this paper constructs a practice teaching model that integrates theory and practice, time and space effectively, and makes a new classification to the practice teaching in Industrial Design of CSUFT as follows:●Teaching Practice—Cognition Practice ●Production Practice,Production Technology Practice—Production Practice●Course Design,Course Work,Model Making,Market Research and User Study—Project Practice●Graduation Practice,Graduation Design(Thesis)—Graduation Practice3,It tries to elaborate and analyze the operating process of the practice teaching within the new model.4,The reform of the practice teaching will effectively heighten the manipulative ability of the students and also provide theoretical and practical supports for the practice teaching of the Industrial Design.We believe that practice teaching only when the development of society, the requirement of industry and the actual condition of the university were combined can play its due role and become the footstone of bringing about excellent professionals.
