Vierendeel truss without diagonal web member, is more flexible and conducive toarchitectural design. The members of vierendeel truss embody the mechanical property ofcommon truss,however,embody mainly the mechanical property of beam, give priority tobending deformation, bear axial force, moment and shear.In this article, by the analysis of the mechanical property of vierendeel truss, theconclusion could be drawn that the mechanical property of vierendeel truss can be improvedby decorating cable and prestressing reasonablely. And it could be a reasonable structuralstyle with better mechanical property.Make sure length factor coefficient of compression chord is an very important step for anactual project. In this article, the conclusion could be drawn that the length factor coefficientof compression chord could not obey the rule in《Code for design of steel structures》and《Technical specification for space frame structures》completely. Length factor coefficient ofcompression chord is different obviously under different way of load. So the reasonablelength factor coefficient of compression chord should be computed on the basis of the loadway.The conclusion could be drawn by comparing five kind of layout of cable. That is, themechanical property of vierendeel truss can be improved by decorating cable reasonable, thebending moment of member bar is connected with the position of cable's turning point. If thereasonable position of cable's turning point is ascertained, the mechanical property ofmember bar will be more reasonable. A method of calculating reasonable position of cable'sturning point and a method of calculating the best prestress level are put forward in thisarticle.By means of analysing a project case, the conclusion could be drawn that comparingwith lessening the stress level of member bar, prestressing cable make an obvious effect onstructural deflection. In the project case, when the prestress level is calculating, controllingthe level of structural deflection is mainly considered. A corresponding method is put forward.In consideration that all the cables could not be prestressing at the same time, a reasonable order of prestressing is put forward in the article.
