Pellet mill holds the balance in feed industry and bioenergy. And the quality of pellet mill plays an important role on the particles yield, quality and the energy consumption. In China, the cost of the pellet mill is high. In this paper, some researches have been down focus on low efficiency, high energy consumption and short service life.(1) Based on the model of the forces acting on the ring type die, finite element simulations have been done. And the result of the finite element simulations shows the forces and abrasions which acting on the ring type die. The failure form of ring type die is fatigue failure. Material is nonuniform distribution in axial direction of the ring type die.(2) The bending strength and contact fatigue strength expressions have been built.(3) Based on different properties of material, that is orthotropic and isotropic material, research on extrusion process through the die orifice has been done. And the mechanical models which describe forces acting on the material through the die orifice have been built.(4) Finite element simulations that describe the orthotropic material extruding in different die hole(the camber and conical inlets to the holes) have been done. Conclusions indicate that the comber inlets to the holes are better than the conical inlets to the holes is obtained.(5) Finite element simulations that orthotropic material extruding in different conicities of the inlets to the holes are been done. From this, we find that the smaller taper, the less energy consumption.(6) Theoretical model has been built to describe the energy consumption of the pellet mill. The consumption of the pellet mill has been studied under different revolving speed of the ring die, different width of the ring die and different material. At last, experiments have been done to testify the theoretical model.Researchers on the production efficiency, the service life and energy consumption of the pellet mill have been done. And the achievements offer an important guideline to structure optimizations of the ring die and roller assembly.
