The experiments were carried out in experimental field of Sichuan Agriculture University from 2008 to 2OO9.This experiment measured mian Physiological and Biochemical indexs in different growth periods, and studied the variation regularities and differences of agronomic characters, photosynthetic characteristics, resisitant indexes and nutritional components in different varieties, and comprehensively evaluated on stress resistance and superiority-inferiority of different varieties by using principal component analysis and grey correlation degree analysis. This research was aimed to provide theoretical basis for selecting the varieties which suited for the local light condition and had excellent quality. The results were showed by research and analysis that:(1) Diurnal variations of photosynthesis in leaves of different types of P. thomsonii have significant difference. Diurnal variation of Pn, Transpiration Rate (Tr), Stomatal Conductance (Gs) in leaves of six varieties of P. thomsonii showed unimodal curve and asymmetric bimodal curve. Diurnal variation of water use efficiency (WUE), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) showed single valley curve. Diurnal variation curve of stomatal limitation value (Ls) was single peak and S-type. Pn in leaves of six varieties of P. thomsonii was positively correlated with photosynthetic active radiation (PAR), air temperature (Ta), Gs, and negatively correlated with air relative humidity (RH), Ci. Pn of all varieties were very significantly correlated with PAR, Gs.(2) Plant height, stem diameter, internode length of different types of P. thomsonii has significant difference.Nutrient contens in the root tuber of P. thomsonii were ranked in the order of K, N, P, Mg, Ca, Fe, and Zn. The average values of Nutrient contens were different with harvesting time.Among them, Mg and Ca have achieved the significance level, and the other have significant or very significant difference.(3) Through principal component analysis, the comprehensive stress resistance of different types of P. thomsonii was ranked in the order of Geboshi 11,Dijin 1,Gange,Chuanyu,Jiuding and Hechuan. The results showed that the physiological index influencing stress resistance was ranked in the order of superoxide dismutase, free proline, catalase and soluble sugar.(4) Using grey correlation degree analysis, the results showed that Gange is the best one for comprehensive characters in this test area.Next came Jiuding, Geboshi 11 and Dijin 1, and the remaining 2 quite poor.(5) The experimental results indicate that:①early growth period, growth potential of Hechuan was obviously higher than other varieties.Hechuan showed stronger superiority than others for variety selection of producing bine.②High starch varieties of Gange,Dijin and Jiuding were the better choice as material of fuel ethanol production.③huanyu and Geboshi 11 were fine varieties for cultivating processed food materials combined with analysis and comparison of main inclusion in root tuber of different types of P. thomsonii.
