The Investigation On Plant Landscape Of Roof Gardens

Roof gardens is an effective way to improve the living environment and to increase the urban greening area. The ecological benefits of roof gardens are mainly realized by plants. Diverse plants can create perfect ecological system and beautiful plant landscape while the types of plants applied and study on plants landscape of domestic roof gardens are rare. Thus, the study on plant landscape of roof garden is important for sustainable development.The history and research progress of roof garden are summarized, then the study of plants design of roof garden and plants design of excellent roof garden cases are analyzed.Based on theoretical analysis,17roof gardens in Beijing and10roof gardens in Shanghai are selected as on-the-spot investigation cases. The rooftop plant and plant landscape of Beijing and Shanghai city are studied systematically.The variety of roof garden plant used in Beijing and Shanghai is so few that its roof garden plant landscape is simple. The study of roof garden plant communities feature is focus on plants composition, the change of seasonal landscape, Ornamental characteristics, etc.. Beijing's roof garden plant community show temperate plant features, and Shanghai's show subtropical plant features.Roof garden's plant space are divided into five classes including open space, semi-open space, space in depth, enclosed space and covering space. These kinds of space have different proportions according to roof gardens of various styles and uses. Representative roof plant space in Beijing and Shanghai are analyzed combining with the analysis of their uses and psychological feeling they bring to visitors.Planting forms, arrangement between plants and other landscape elements are analyzed too.There are some problems in the plants landscape such as poor conservation, lack of localized design. Some suggestions on how to solve these problems are also proposed.
