The Study On Medium Selecting For Scale Propagation Of Lilium Oriental

Scaling is one of the most important propagation methods for oriental lilium, which is based onscientific medium prescription. In order to solve chaotic using and high cost problems for propagationmedium, common materials like sand, home made crude turf(HMCT), perlite and vermiculite were usedfor oriental lilium 'Siberia' and 'Sorbonne'. Effects of different medium were studied and results werelisted as below:Performance on production of bulblets with six different medium prescriptions were analised andcompared. It was shown that in treatment M4(perlite: HMCT=1:1, volume ratio, VR), Siberiaperformed best on survival rate of scale, mean volume of single bulb(MVSB) and root length(RL),followed by M1(Sand: HMRT=1:1) and M5(vermiculite:HMCT=1:1). In treatment M1,'Siberia'performed best in bulblet amount per scale(BAPS), bulblet size(BS) and survival rate of plantedbulblet(SRPB), followed by M4and M5. For 'Sorbonne', M4performed the best on SR of scale, BAPSand BS, followed by M1and M5, considering MVSB and RL, M5was the best.Physicochemical Property of different medium prescriptions were studied and compared as well.For pH value, M5was higher than M4and M1. M3(sand:vermiculite=1:1, VR) and M2(sand:perlite=1:1)valued higher than pH6.5, the top pH value suggested for lilium. The total porosity, which determinesbreathability and water permeability of medium. The total porosity of M5topped the list, while that ofM4and M1was higher than85%also. Organic matter is the main nutrition resource for plant, whichmeans organic matter content (OMC) is the basic index of medium fertility. OMC of M6(HMRT) was60.19%, which topped all. OMC of M1was33.68%; M4,32.84%; M5,28.56%. In summary,physicochemical Property of M1, M4and M5differed little, the three were all suitable for orientallilium scaling.M1, M4and M5were initially selected as medium for oriental lilium scaling, while M1wasrecognized by costing as the best for replacing imported turf.
