To increase the grafting efficiency and reduce the labor intensity, automatic graftingmachines are being continuously studied at home and abroad. Thus automatic graftingtechnology becomes gradually mature. Grafting has basically realized automation now, whilein the factory grafting seedling system, how to supply standardized seedlings to graftingmachine automatically has become one of the key technologies. Directional seeding is theprecondition for producing standardized seedlings, but less research has been done on largeseeds at home and abroad.Rootstock seeds are mostly large seeds such as pumpkin, thus thisstudy aimed at the large seeds directional seeding device. Main contents of the study are:(1) Design of the overall scheme for the large seeds directional seeding device.Throughtests of different sowing styles of the large seeds, it is clear that directional seeding canproduce seedlings with uniform cotyledons direction; then judge the seeds' direction using theimage processing technology; finally decide to use the mechanical system to sow the seeds.(2) Judge the seed's direction with image processing technology to prepare for adjustingseeds' direction.Based on external appearances of the pumpkin seeds, it is relatively sharp onseed budding point. Use the area comparison method to judge the budding point location.(3) Design of the directional seeding device to make the seeds in one direction aftersowing.The device makes the large seeds in a certain direction first, and then realizesdirectional seeding with the step motor.(4) The result of image processing and directional seeding device are combined torealize automatic directional seeding.Use the serial communication to combine the seeds'directional information and the directional seeding device, to complete the directionalsowing.Through tests of different sowing styles, it is clear that directional seeding can producethe standardization seedling, providing the prerequisites for the automatic grafting machine.After sowing with model machine, the success rate of the long axis deviation which is lessthan30°is80%.It is basic study for the future research of producing standardized seedlingequipment.
