The Study Of The Plants And Plant Landscape In A Dream In Red Mansion

A Dream in Red Mansion is the epitomized work of Chinese ancient novels, which embodies mostof Chinese ancient cultural essence. It also attracts lots of scholars to do research in different aspectsdue to its distinctive charming art; however, the research of plant and plant landscape from the view oflandscape is rare.The thesis studies the plants mentioned in A Dream in Red Mansion and the plant landscape, takingthe Literature Searching as the main method and synthesizing the site inspection in The Grand ViewGarden in Beijing. Thus, the thesis has the following achievements:(1)Study of plants in A Dream in Red Mansion. The thesis based on the book A Dream in RedMansion, counts the228species of plants in the former eighty chapters and makes classificationthrough plant classification system and analyzes the rates of some among the plants. At the same time,lots of literary recourses are used in order to have the textual criticism of the different names of oneplant both in ancient and the modern time and the allusions of plants in the recourses. Lastly, the plantsin Grand View Garden are analyzed based on the original work and the phenology condition.(2)Study of plant scenic spot in The Grand View Garden. The thesis is the first one to introduce theidea of plant scenic spot among the researches of The Grand View Garden. The Grand View Garden isdivided into10plant scenic spots based on the recovered ichnography of The Grand View Garden. Also,the characteristics and the origin of the archetype style of every plant scenic spot are analyzed in detail.(3)Study of plants in courtyard in The Grand View Garden. The plant landscape in the courtyardswhere the characters in A Dream in Red Mansion live are analyzed based on the recovered ichnography.At the same time, they are compared with the plant landscape in The Grand View Garden in Beijing,through which the principles to recover The Grand View Garden in Beijing are presented.(4)The construction style of The Grand View Garden is concluded at last according to theresearches above, which strives to natural drawing, constructs the winding streets, partition planting,and plants for characters and sets the optimal viewing areas. Besides, the way that plants unite to thesetting is also discussed. The last but not least, the viewpoint of modern plant landscape design iscritically analyzed.
