Objective To compare the therapeutic effectiveness and cost among different strategies of antibiotic prophylaxis after the modified radical mastectomy during perioperative period. Methods Clinical data of 60 infiltrating ductal carcinoma patients who had undergone modified radical mastectomy and received antibiotic prophylaxis during perioperative period were analyzed retrospectively. According to the situation that the prophylactic use of antibiotics they were divided into three groups:group A (n=20) were using antibiotics preventive preoperative and postoperative day 1 single dosing; Group B (n=20) were using antibiotics preventive preoperative one dose and continual-use postoperative 3 days; Group C (n=20) were using antibiotics preventive preoperative one dose and continual-use postoperative 5 days. To a retrospective analysis, surgical site condition, postoperative fever, postoperative incision lead flow and appearance, respiratory infections and antibiotics itself base-disposal cost were observed. Results There was no significant difference among the groups in perioperative infection except in the maxima temperature after operation (p=0.007). The cost of antibiotics was significant difference among the groups (p<0.05)Conclusion The antibiotic prophylaxis of preoperative and postoperative day 1 single dosing was the higher effectiveness-cost, and it could be the regular method of preventing infection.
