Because of predatory exploitation of Acanthopanax in the recent years, its wild resources have been increasingly deficient, and artificial planting herbs will become the main source of Chinese medicine raw materials. The present study was designed to explore the formation factors of quality of Acanthopanax senticosus medicinal material and will provide theoretical basis for the resource development, protection and utilization.A tailored HPLC approach was developed to determine the content of eleutheroside B, eleutheroside E, chlorogenic acid, and isofraxidin in Acanthopanax senticosus roots and stems collected from 30 growing sites in northeast China. The germplasm of different populations have a greater impact on the quality of Acanthopanax senticosus medicinal material than that of production place. Environment of different production place influence the quality of herbs because of the edge effect of origin, Acanthopanax senticosus are suitable to be cultivated at in the northern part of Heilongjiang Province and Liaoning province for improving the quality of medicinal herbs. The result of stem indicated that the most important factors impacting on eleutheroside B are the maximum temperature in July and annual rainfall; that of eleutheroside E are sloped aspects; the gradient and sunshine hours all significantly impact on content of chlorogenic acid; however, all of ecological factors have little different to content of the isofraxidin. To this point, the quality of stem is mainly affected by the highest temperature in July and sloped aspects. The result of roots:it is found that major factors that have an effect on eleutheroside B are latitude, annual rainfall, annual mean temperature, sunshine, and maximum temperature in July. A range of factors, including sunshine, highest temperature in July, and slope have an effect on the content of chlorogenic acid. Isofraxidin is most affected by highest temperature in July, annual mean temperature, latitude, and annual rainfall. None of the ecological factorstested, however, have a meaningful effect on the content of eleutheroside E. In this context, the quality of Acanthopanax senticosus roots is mainly affected by sunshine, slope, and highest temperature in July.
