Objective:To observe the effect of prophylactic treatment of chemotherapy-induced constipation with senna 40mg/kg.Methods:Selecting Group AB/BA inrandom, a cross-reference experiment is conducted by 82 patients who are supposed to be troubled with constipation after chemotherapy. Group AB refers to senna group in the first period, and the crude fiber diet in the second period; opposite in case of Group BA. Primary objectives:To observe the effectiveness of prophylactic treatment of chemotherapy-induced constipation in Groups A (Senna) and B (crude fiber diet). Secondary objectives:To compare the differences of alimentary canal toxicity and blood toxicity after chemotherapy in Groups A, B; to understand the conditions of patients'abdominal pain and stool properties after their taking senna. Results:The effective rate of Group A (Senna) was 92.68% and Group B (crude fiber diet) 10.93% with a marked difference (P<0.0001). there was no statistic difference of DegreeⅡ-above adverse reaction after chemotherapy (P> 0.05); the rate of DegreeⅡ-above abdominal pain after taking senna was 8.54% and that of loose stool was35.53% with a moderate distribution of stool properties. Conclusion:On condition of a proper dosage, it is preferably effective and safe to have a prophylactic treatment of constipation induced by malignant tumor chemotherapy with senna 40mg/kg.
