On this study, we established essential oil GC fingerprint and fatty acid GC fingerprint in Zanthoxylum in 22 batches of different areas.We ultimately provides a theoretical basis for qualitative and quantitative control of the essential oil and fatty acid of the Zanthoxylum from different areas by cluster analysis and similarity evaluation.Through referred process,conclusions are as follows:(1)In the proceeding of the study on fingerprint of essential oil and fatty acids,the result of the relative sandard deviation on the evaluation of precision,repeatability and sample stability is below 5%. The result of the experiment is reliable.(2) The conclusion of Cluster Analysis is that those production areas from these places-Fengxian Shaanxi,Taibaixian Shaanxi,Wudu Gansu,Yuanlong Gansu, Xunhua Qinghai,Hanyuan Sichuan,Maoxian Sichuan were the first classification;those production areas from these places-Hancheng Shaanxi, Zhaotong Yunnan,Zaozhuang Shandong,Shexian Hebei were the second one;those production areas from these places-Changzhi Shanxi, Fuping Shaanxi, Shangluo Shaanxi were the third one;those samples(Zanthosylum Schinifolium Sieb.et Zucc.)from these places-Dali Yunnan,Lijiang Yunnan,Jinyang Yunnan,Jiangjin Chongqing were classified as number 4;Qinan Gansu and Yidu Hubei were the fifth and sixth classifications respectively.According to the results from similarity evaluation,it can be concluded that the similarity of the first classification and the second one comparing with the common essential oil fingerprint is more than 0.9,these areas are rich in essential oil.The similarity of category 3,5,6 compare with the common essential oil fingerprint is less than 0.9, these areas are not rich in essential oil. The similarity of category 4 compare with the common essential oil fingerprint is within 0.41~0.56, But the content of essential oil in Zanthosylum Schinifolium Sieb.et Zucc is high,so the area of category 4 is still rich in essential oil.(3)We make the fatty acid GC fingerprint analysis on 22 different areas of the Zanthoxylum.Ultimately,The conclusion of Cluster Analysis is that those production areas from these places-Fengxian Shaanxi,Taibaixian Shaanxi,Wudu Gansu,Yuanlong Gansu, Xunhua Qinghai,Hanyuan Sichuan,Maoxian Sichuan were the first classification;those production areas from these places-Hancheng Shaanxi, Fuping Shaanxi,Zhaotong Yunnan,Zaozhuang Shandong, Changzhi Shanxi,Shexian Hebei were the second one;those production areas from these places- Qinan Gansu and Yidu Hubei were the third one;those samples(Zanthosylum Schinifolium Sieb.et Zucc.)from these places-Dali Yunnan,Lijiang Yunnan,Jinyang Yunnan,Jiangjin Chongqing were classified as number 4;Shangluo Shaanxi is the fifth classification. According to the results of similarity evaluation, we make a conclusion that the similarity of category 1,2,4 of the fatty acid GC fingerprint of Zanthoxylum comparing with the common one is more than 0.9, these areas are rich in fatty acid.The similarity of the fatty acid GC fingerprint of Zanthoxylum of category 3,5 comparing with the common one is less than 0.9, these areas are not rich in fatty acid.
