Objective: To evaluate the intelligence and adaptive behavior features of the epilepsy and normal healthy children. Thus, explore the characters of epilepsy children's intelligence structure and adaptive behaviour. and analyze the related factors. In order to discovery the epilepsy children's neuropsychological problem earlier, and make contribution to provide basis on clinical interventions. Methods: This study used Chinese Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (C-WISC) and Adaptive Behavior Scale for Children to evaluate the intelligence structure and adaptive behavior. Subjects with epilepsy (n=19) and healthy children (n=26) included in the study, whose age were mainly distributed in 6-12 years old. In this study, data were analyzed using statistical software SPSS version 13.0. T-test of independent sampler was used to analyze all the scores of the two groups; chi-square test was used to compare the difference between groups in enumeration data. wilcoxon w rank test was used to analyze the ranked data. Single factor multiple linear regression analysis was uesd to analyze the influence of various factors on IQ and ADQ quotient.Results:1.The verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ) , performance intelligence quotient (PIQ) and full intelligence quotient (FIQ) in epilepsy children are all lower than that of health children (p<0.05), especially the VIQ and FIQ (p<0.01).2.In the subtests, the mean scores of Information, Arithmetic ,Vocabulary, Comprehension and Picture Completion of epilepsy children group are much lower than those of health children group (p<0.05), especially, the differences is more significant in the Information and Vocabulary subtests (p<0.01).3. The comparation between epilepsy children and health children groups in adaptive behavior quality (ADQ) and related factors indicated that the ADQ of epilepsy children is obviously worse than health children (p<0.05). However, these two groups showed no significant difference in ADQ related factors.4. The comparation between epilepsy children and health children groups in Subscales of Adaptive Behavior Scale for Children, showed the difference mainly lies in the sensorimotor function and language development ability (p<0.05).5. Studies have also found that, there exit correlations between FIQ and the onset age, course of disease, seizure control and their parents'education level of epilepsy children (p<0.1). In addition, the course of disease also have correlation with ADQ (p<0.1).Conclusions:1. Compared with healthy children, the intelligence and adaptive behavior ability of epilepsy children were decreased severely.2. According to intelligence analysis, the VIQ of epilepsy children decreased more serious than that of healthy children; The ADQ comparation suggested that the cognitive impairment of epilepsy children was mainly on verbal intelligence.3. There exit correlation between FIQ, ADQ and the onset age, course of disease, seizure control and their parents'education level.4. For the clinical treatment of child epilepsy, besides the positive control, but should also stress the protection of cognition function, particularly development and training of verbal intelligence. Meanwhile, we should also pay more attentions to the affection of social psychological factors on children's healthy.
